Not a Fair Fight

My coworkers say I’m indifferent to more income because I’m still in school, don’t have any kids, and only work part time but I think that’s ridiculous. They don’t understand why I suggest we proceed with caution towards this national $15 minimum wage increase push. My boss told me the only way he can afford to pay $15 bucks and hour to all the workers in the restaurant is by cutting at least half of those jobs. That’s means more people will be forced to go out there and look for another job. I’ll probably be one of those to lose my job since I only work part time. How is that good move for the economy?

Motivated To Work Hard!

You can expect more adults competing for your job if the pay rate goes up that high too. Young people are going to be the population most negatively affected of this becomes the new federal standard.

But those workers sticking their neck out to protest and other earning the current minimum wage also have a valid argument asking for a higher wage. Anything under 15 bucks an hour is non-livable income for a head of household. We can talk about the need for more skills all day but taking time to go back to school is no longer an option for many of these workers. They want to be able to offer schooling and higher learning opportunities to their children instead and more take home pay is the only way they can do that.

The possibility that your probably one of the youngest crew members in that restaurant and the only one that get this is funny but at the same time frightening. You’re right, there’s no way your boss and other business owners like him will be able to keep everyone at $15 per hour.
