With Respect To Liam Neeson

In the insanity that is my job search I find myself wanting to channel my inner Liam Neeson and have a conversation with recruiters that goes like this -

I don't know who you are and you clearly don't know what you want. If you are looking for the perfect person for the job, I can tell you I am that guy because I have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me idea for the job you are attempting to fill. If you give me the job now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will find the job I am looking for and odds are I will be working for your competition.

So good luck!

All the best with the grind of your job search everyone and all the best for a great weekend.

What is the best job and the right person for the job? That is when the two minds meet. Paper work does not describe sincerity or honesty and it is only when the relation get into gear than the two minds can say that they have a winner. Other than the above it is always a guessing game.

You might want to check the "definition" of the phrase "with respect to" I suspect you were attempting to give credit for the attitude in your paragraph to one f Mr Neeson's roles, but that is is NOT what the phrase means.

Hello Steven, Your job search post is remarkable. The title is your catch and the only reason I opened your post. Who doesn't love and respect Liam's abilities...confident, strong, capable, smart and street smart, a class act, protective, etc., so already you have told me a great deal about yourself. You go on to express your confidence. It has been said that every book has one word spelled wrong to get the attention of the reader...wake him up, etc., but with such a short post I would have recommended a different word to misspell, and not such an important one like "ideal". Someone will discover you with such a fine ability to express yourself in a unique way. Best Always.

Love this! I'm a huge Liam Neeson fan too :-) With regards to recruiters and also when I interview as a travel nurse. I may just have to use a version if this... Thanks Steven for the laugh and good luck!!! I also agree a sense of humor is one of the most important things we have. :-D

Steven, I acknowledge that in many cases the recruiting process is very broken. We are no longer a factory based economy, having moved into a knowledge based one years ago, yet companies still recruit as if we are back in 1960. But, we need to take responsibility too in the job search process and market ourselves to better showcase our skills and how we can solve for an organization's challenges. I refuse to give all my power to a recruiter. When I stopped doing that, the recruiters came flocking in, the offers flowed and I landed the job I wanted. I won't say good luck because it's not all about luck but how well you brand yourself! Wishing you the very best!

-An inexhaustible treasure-house of wisdom and compassion

Steven,

I want to thank you. The fact that we as individuals with our own views/opinions gather here to talk without judgement- but rather remain open minded while welcoming (with laughter) an open forum setting. The feeling of community is noticed and nice.

With that being said, I respectfully disagree :) but do like the Liam Neeson approach.

I've worked with many recruiters (in all types of settings) and your opening remarks 'I don't know who you are and you clearly don't know what you want' unfortunately is how many job seekers approach the recruiter and the entire recruiting process that is put in place by Human Resources.

Rather than having a preconceived notion as you enter the interview, I tell applicants, "before you enter my office remember that you alone control the energy you're bringing into this space."

You are absolutely correct with the getting to know you; you both should be, you should be interviewing them just as they are you....to assure it is a good partnership and win/win for both. And always remember the recruiter knows the atmosphere in which the applicant will work. They have long checklists of criteria given to them by their manager. So try to remember there is a bigger process and strict procedures that we don't see.

But I have faith that we all try to match the best person, best qualified and best teammate to avoid having to recruit for the same role twice.

I hope my input helped.

Make tomorrow a great day!
