More hours through staffing agency?

I found employment at a local company through a temp agency job assignment. The agency and company managers have been pretty awesome to me, but the company isn’t giving me the kind of hours that I thought they would. This is my first job experience with a temporary hiring agency. Who do I talk to about getting more hours - the company or temp agency?

Charlie, You need to address this with your recruiter from the agency. Do not go to the company where you are assigned. The downside of being a temp is that when they need to cut hours, temps get their hours cut first.

Usually they have agreements in place that YOU"RE NOT TO SOLICIT WORK DIRECTLY FROM THE CUSTOMER. If you have team leader (from that employment agency) then you go to them.

So, you need more hours. How about working with 2 different temp agencies at the same time?! One for each shift-7:00-3:00 and 3:00-11:00. This would give you approximately 16 hours each day x # of days you can work. This way you would work 3 days instead of 5 for at least 40 hrs. I worked at 3 different agencies before and got my hours that I needed. Loved the atmosphere of all three agencies!

Some temp agencies only contract people a certain number of hours or days, check with the agency because it could be them since they have some sort of agreement for employment with you.

I've had temp jobs in the past always found better and quicker resolutions to my hours, schedule, and time off request dealing directly with the employer.

Charlie do you have a contract through the agency or an agreement to work a specific number of hours? I’d talk to them about it.
