Registered Nurse at Crystal Coast Care For Women

Just burnt out

I'm just needing to get this out, talk, or something. I'm an RN... I've been a good nurse. Got my RN in 1994. Have worked in just about every area of nursing. My career has ended after a facility I worked for rounded up a large group of us "long timers" service years ranging from 8 to 38 years, myself of 16 years, and forcing resignations or be fired. 19 of us nurses in just over 2 months had this happen to us. For me this has been just over 3 years ago. I was fortunate enough to get a office nurse job, making $30,000 less per year than what I had been making, but as a single mom of 2 kids, not able to leave the area, choices are limited. Some of the other nurses had to leave their homes, and others were able to get home health jobs, etc. The hospital however hired new, young, cheaper nurses to take our places. Yea, it has suffered in its own way due to getting rid of all those seasoned nurses. For me, the area where i live is small, not many choices for a Nurse. I loved what i have done, not so much where or who i have worked for. Nursing has let me down. I thought spending a lifetime working with people would have meant something, friendships, family, etc, but, mostly I find the majority nurses will only look out for themselves, and cast their eyes downward instead of stand up to do what is right. Sure there is still a small percentage that will. Maybe I am part of that small percentage, and because I am, I am in the position I am in. Unfortunately, i have had the unrealistic expectation that nurses in general had the same morals, and expectations of each other that I have had. I have learned an unfortunate lesson about the career choice I had made so long ago. Getting back to the reasoning for my post... I am 48 years old. I have done nothing but nursing my whole career, and I am completely soured with it. It has been a waste of time, knowledge, and effort, and I would like to do something else with myself, but I am at a loss for what. I have loved what I have done with my career, just not what my career has done with me. I would like to find something to work from home. I'm used to phone triage, as an RN at the office I currently am in. So if there are any

You might want to look into teaching. I know it's not ideal, but it would at least allow you to be home during the summer. There are several high schools which teach CTE courses in nursing. I know you probably wouldn't want to be a school nurse, but being a teacher in a school with a high school nursing program might work for you. Just a thought. Good luck. I hope it gets better.

Sorry for what occurred but dont allow yourself to hate your career choice cuz of others.what about private nursing? Also juvenile placements need nurses as well as juvenile camps, schools ,and juvenile halls.you might also somewhat qualify to teach at at 6, 9 month school but might need to get a certification! Your former field of work was a true blessing to us all so don't look down on it nor say it was a waste of time. Vent to God! Forgive those whom turned their backs on u and give God praise! Obey him and listen to him as he talks back to u. Blessings
