What should I do?

I’ve been working at the same pizza shop since I graduated from high school. It’s a small family owned restaurant. I’ve been there so long that the owner consider me like another family member. I learned a lot about cooking, running a business, and dealing with customers during my time working there and I appreciate all the guidance and schedule flexibility the owner has given me throughout the years. The owner is getting up there in age and wants to slow down so he’s been handing over more of the day to day business operations over to me this summer. Last week he approached me with a General Manager offer. The bump in pay is great but the job doesn’t include any health benefits. He say’s the business can’t financially support paying health benefits for me and the other 4 FT employee’s who work in the restaurant. My girlfriend and I are planning to start a family soon and I can’t risk taking on a new job role with no health insurance. It breaks my heart to have to decline the owners job offer but I’m eventually going to have to move onto another job with benefits. Does anyone know of another affordable health insurance option I can purchase independently or as a group if the other employees decide to sign up with me as well?

None at None

I honestly don't know. I'm just a teenager who's going to be starting a job at Little Caesars, so I can't really help.

I would stay where you are because you are happy. Things have a way of working out. Try to get a group plan with the other employees if you can. I work part-time as a Housekeeper. I am self-employed. I have Obama care and I don't even pay co-pays. Even my prescriptions are free. Look into this. I go to some doctors at Cook County hospital where I get treated kindly and they have great doctors. Also, don't start a family until you get married. There are a lot of benefits to getting married, and if you and your girlfriend break up you don't have any legal rights the same as married people in regard to property and kids. Be smart. I would stay at this job, but also get education for future opportunities. Take business courses. Good luck! I am 59, and if I could do it all over I would go to college.

Obama care 2016. Very affordable and helped me when I was unemployed. Please look into it.

Look at Healthcare.gov or ehealthinsurance to see if you can find affordable health insurance. If this is a business with good receipts and a foothold in the community, this could be a smart move. You could buy him out should he decide to sell, or he may turn the business over to you if he doesn't have an heir. How old is the business? Do you want to stay in the restaurant business? Your skills as a General Manager are transferable and can be used somewhere else; they make a better lateral move. HTH!

Tony I do hope that you understand that a "small family pizza shop" is not really a permanent career move. Not trying to end your first job out of high school, but maybe you should try upward mobility. Say Medical Billing, Massage Therapist, Auto Mechanic..... CDL Truck Driver...... Just a thought invade you ever want to achieve a different standard. Subway, Taco Bell, and the family pizza shop needs a back up plan... Just in case...... Maybe??

you do realize most places are not offering full time hours to avoid health care. you better keep this job . look into health care based on income. when you have children there are more options.

Look! You are very blessed from God it sounds like you are where you need to be! Don't leave over health benefits! I have a agent that works for blue Cross blue shield and his name is Moe and I swear my health insurance is less than 20$ a month! Please don't give up what God has blessed you with! Call my friend Moe: 772.801.3932. He will help you and your family because I feel like you should not give up this blessing from God which is what sounds like is happening with your new position! Don't let anything knock you off track! God is good all the time!

My suggestion would be to stay. The owner is proposing a great advancement, and who knows, you might even inherit the business if he doesn't have heirs. The Healthcare insurance that our country has to offer is very affordable. I found myself without a job 6 months ago and no insurance as a result for myself and my family. Optima Health insurance offers good plans according to current income status. Good luck to you and God bless.!
