no responses? disability limitations
im an adjunct and tutor who just got my PhD and I have four masters. Due to severe phsyical neurological disabilities, I have never been able to pass probation on any kid of job until i started tutoring and being an adjunct because the disabilities limit visual spatial, perceptual, motor coordination, balance, judgment, problem solving, mobility, etc. The only things I can do is teach college, tutor, and talk about what I know and do academic intellectual student type tasks. I have a very high IQ and have tried everything to no avail. For the last 25 years I have been an adjunct and tutor but it is not a steady income. I have been trying for full time positions and no one even responds. my university career services says cv and cover letter are excellent and yet no one responds. I think it is my disability. any ideas? Dr Reagan

Hi Dr. Reagan:
You are definitely well-educated and your resume is most impressive. Do you address your disability in your cover letter? How are they ruling you out without having met you? If you are getting interviews and not landing the job, it might definitely be that you are bringing up your disability and that is turning off potential employers.
None of them will ever admit this of course, as it violates the ADA, a federal initiative protecting workers with disabilities.
They may be concerned that your disability, with it's myriad of symptoms, will put you at risk for falls, missed time, and put you at a disadvantage in dealing with student problems that may arise.
I am not sure how to circumvent this issue though.
Just be prepared, now that you put your situation out there on Jobcase, you will most likely get a bunch of people responding that you should file a lawsuit.
What state do you reside? Thanks for you reply.
