Working on becoming a owner-operator. Taking over my father's T660 with a paccar 430hp turned up to a 480hp, 10 speed with 480k original miles. Have 10k in my pocket and no trailer. My father said he'll help me with whatever he can within his limits. Any suggestions? Thinking about signing on with Landstar. Anyone have experience with them?

Lease on with an oil rig moving company... It pays by the hour and it's good work. The least pay I have caught seen so far pays the truck 93 dollars an hour. So, if you're sitting all day at location. You're still getting paid. But, the work can be hard on your truck.

Dont walk run to the nearest college and get enrolled.

I had a friend who said he liked being with landstar you get to choose your loads

Landstar is good, you pick your own loads from there load board. Pull there trailers for drop and hook or use there trailer for hauling freight. My best paying load was $38 a mile, it was only 10 miles and paid $380. Loaded at 1p am and empty and back at the truck stop at noon. It is an art knowing how to find good paying Freight. The brokers know your new by your employ number, some brokers are cheap, you will get th know the good ones.Good luck

Ats has a great owner OP program they are out of mn

Hi! Give Trailer Transit, Inc a call. They're located in Indiana as I recall. The company pays their owner/operators well and you don't need a trailer. Trailer Transit moves trailers and expo equipment across the U.S. and Canada. If you're set on getting a trailer, check out Craigslist. I scored a heck of a good deal on my 2015 Great Dane (found thru a CL listing). Best of luck!

If I were you I would sign on with Schneider.. Their rates aren't as high as landstar but they have a plethora (alot) of drop and hook freight. If you can drive 500 miles a day you can make 6500 a week easily and with only insurance permits tags and fuel you'll net close to 5 ,000 a week. You won't make that at landstar pulling dry van and with landstar you'll be searching for trailers constantly. Really landstar is a great logistics firm where is shneider is a trucking company. Huge discounts on fuel ,good prices on insurance not to mention Schneider has discounted rates on everything from mechsnies and tires to towing . Without a truck payment you'll be good to go.The best thing about them is their attitude their always willing to help you make money . That's a big one in my book

Landstar has its good points and bad points. I always had problems with finding good paying Freight. You have to get in good with your agents around where you live and where you like to travel. If you're a good brown noser you might can make it but get ready for a lot of favors.

Always remember that it’s the truck that is making the money and it must keep running to make more money. Always put money back into it and also have a healthy breakdown fund. Oh yea, chrome doesn’t make the truck run better.
It is a rough life. You will have many new responsibilities. O/O' S DO NOT GET A DAY OFF. Only some limited time. Driving, loading, & delivering is the easy part. Maintaining the Rig is a lot is the hard part. Keep the 10 K for emergencies. Consider leasing a wagon (trailer) if you just have to have one. Most shippers want a trailer that is 10 yrs old max, and prefer them much younger. Companies like Land Star provide the trailers. Your experience with them will be base on your interaction with them. ADVICE... Nerver let a dispatcher push you into running illegal. Never Overload. Be Professional, and stand your ground. Always maintain your Rig. Know what it cost per mile to run your Rig . And most inportant " ALWAYS KNOW WHAT THE LOAD PAYS BEFORE YOU LOAD IT.
