It's my Work GPS Fault!!!

My job involves a lot of driving in a company vehicle. We are required to use a company GPS so they can track us (which is fair). The issue comes in when the GPS are totally useless in more rural parts of the state, and as a result it frequently gets me lost if I try to follow it. I was late to an important meeting because of this, and when I tried to explain that it was the fault of the GPS they just dismissed my complaint because "nobody else has ever had a problem with it." I could just buy my own, better GPS and use that for navigation, but that doesn't seem fair. Has anyone else ever had to deal with this?

I know technology is not always up to date. The gps coordinated and google maps misled travelers to a wrong location at the very high profile place I used to work. We had to warn visitors not to reply on those and give them directions. We had issues trying to get it resolved.

Try this when there's don't work so well. Use the phone in your personal phone to get you there. Someone here may have already repeated what I am saying now but at least you won't be late next time and they won't make up an excuse about "nobody else has ever has a problem with it." Why buy your own and they will not reimburse you for it?

Residential Suppport at Home Assistance

I am sorry for your rough spot with your boss. I understand your situation although I am not in the situation at work. I have had it happen trying to find a business for appointment and NEW housing and streets are popping up all over VERMONT> I am moving to Michigan shortly. I can't find work here and my wife is there. I agree with others you have your work GPS and I'd use my own and see how they compare. I don't think it's fair for them to dismiss you or what you have to say. Good luck.

I haven't had to deal with this. But, they shouldn't be treating you this way. You say that they can track where you are so they should see you weren't messing around. I agree that they should update the GPS more often. New streets and housing pops up every day. I've been a driver before back 15 years ago, before GPS was really used a lot. I'd call the company and ask where they were located. But I agree with you and I agree you bring your own GPS and your work and compare them. At least you won't get a big hassle. Good luck, Edgar!!!!

If local, within 50 miles, I always call location if possible. Business moves, internet sights not updated and other factors can contribute to GPS being the half assed system it is.

Download WAZE on your cellphone. Use them both together. Leave out earlier since you know the GPS doesn't work properly to give yourself extra time in the event you get lost.

Edgar, did you get fired because of it?I've been a commercial driver for over 20yrs.Before this GPS thing,I had to go from point a to b the old fashioned way,map reading. And I still do (in case the GPS craps out on me )In other words, carry a map with you .Maps won't loose the signal.

I received an over weight ticket due to following the route that my 400 dollar trucker GPS sent me. At the end of the day the courts told me in a nut she'll that GPS's are man made and that in some instances we have to use old school remedies, which is an Atlas or Thomas guide. I was fined 532 dollars for it....smh
