How can the US tax people during a pandemic, how can the US not just process all refunds during a pandemic? How can the US not send out all of the stimulus checks to everyone, during a pandemic?

I filed in mid-April 2020 before the usual deadline, and I did not receive my refund and no 2nd stimulus either. Supposedly, the IRS has not opened more than seven million refund requests done by paper.

I kept getting the same error but it eventually worked. I just barely received my stimulus. If you had your taxes done last year by TAXACT or any other service then your stimulus was deposited into their personal account. By law they have to return that money. Even though the IRS had my bank information they still sent me a check through the mail. I just got mine in Saturday. Keep checking your mail it should be coming. When you check the IRS website you have to put in your address The way the instructions say or you will get an error. Hopefully you will see your stimulus soon. Hope this helps.

You can claim it as a credit on your 2020 Federal Tax Return and it will be refunded or applied to any tax due on your return

I retired September 4, 2020. Why aren't they going by our income from 2020 instead of 2019. My income drastically decreased in 2020 to $43,000 yet I never received the $600.00 because they wet by my income for 2019. For 2021, i will only be getting Social Security for less than $16,000.00 a year. Is there someplace I can call to see if I can qualify for assistance for the stimulus money???

They are going off your 2019 tax return because that’s all they had so if you made $75K as an individual or $150K as a married couple that stimulus money dwindles down pretty quick. They have not taken into consideration the fact that there are people out there that also lost that income due to COVID and now are running through any savings they might have had or are dipping into their 401K if they were lucky enough to have that perk from their employer and paying a penalty of 10% for early withdrawal if they are younger than 59.5 years old. The IRS will nab 20% for taxes. Always check with your plan and make sure they allow for hardship withdrawals. You may not have enough vested to cover the amount you need or your plan may have you take a loan instead of a straight cash payout. Read the small print. It feels like a slap in the face when the government thinks that $600 or $2,000 will pull any of us out of the financial destitution COVID has created. Congress doesn’t understand our plight because they’re set for life. I heard it best said that “$600 is a haircut for Pelosi”. Tired of it all....thanks for letting me vent a little.
