Three steps for motivating yourself in your job search!

It's really tough to apply for jobs, let's be honest. I know it sometimes seems like you're shouting into the void. But the best way to apply for jobs is to apply for as many jobs as possible and follow up with them all. That's a lot of work, right? So how do you stay motivated? Here are a few steps to help you out!

  1. BE POSITIVE You are more likely to put things off if you're in a bad mood. Research shows that being happy increases your productivity and can even help you be more successful! Optimism can be incredibly powerful. Think about how far you've come already. You're here and you're ready to change your life. Things are already looking up!

  2. REWARD YOURSELF Getting rewards feels awesome, right? So why not reward yourself for the work you're doing? Try giving a trustworthy friend or family member $10. Tell them they can only give it back to you if you apply to 5 different jobs today. If you don't get the applications done, you're out $10! Or, if you'd prefer to not mess with money (or you don't have a nearby trustworthy friend) tell yourself that you can have dessert after dinner if you've applied to 5 jobs. Promise yourself a milkshake for doing a couple of follow-ups. A cookie for editing your resume. The possibilities are endless (and tasty)!

  3. BE PEER PRESSURED Spend time and effort being around the kinds of people you want to be. The friends you keep can really influence your life. Research shows that people pick up a lot of habits from their friends, so who better to be friends with than serious and responsible people? Plus it never hurts with networking!

Trust me, YOU CAN DO THIS. You're already here, so you've already rocked the first step of your job search. Now head on over to https://jobcase.com/jobs/search and start applying for jobs!

I'm not sure applying for as many jobs as possible is the correct answer.I know the more you apply the better your chances are of getting an interview at some point. I just don't want to end up with that job that really isn't a fit for me because I was so busy applying for jobs in hopes of an interview. It's very tough out there these days. I am an unemployed RN. Just because I'm a RN doesn't mean that I have the world at my feet. There are so many different aspects of nursing that most people don't know about. I haven't been a staff nurse in forever so that would not be a good fit for me or the person hiring. My passion has been in administration. With all the changes over the years it is impossible to get that type of job anymore w/o having a BSN....even though I have a AAS in nursing & a BS in mgmt. I'm 57....go back & get my MS in healthcare which would allow me to do those types of jobs & hope that I can get a job upon completion. I live in a rural area so...... (sorry if I got off topic...job searching is so draining!)

Great read Emily.. I like the reward strategy you have on here. I tend to deny myself things because I'm unemployed. The overwhelming thought is I'm not working now so I can't afford it.
