I have been out of a job for about four months now. I am focusing on clerical jobs mostly in the school districts around my erea. It seems they all want someone with a degree. But what about all my 25 years experience? Does that not count? and if they dont require a degree they want to pay you nothing. it is very discouraging, I feel like I am never going to get a job that will pay me what I am worth. anyone out there having the same troubles?

I'm in agreement with you all. It's been almost a year for me and nothing has came about yet. But as the young man said keep the faith some thing will happen for you soon. God blessing to you all who are still searching for that job. Just know you are not alone in this battle, just keep the faith and no trouble don't last always..

I am in the same situation as you are. I've worked my entire life and have had many high paying jobs. I've been looking for almost a year. My last job I worked for the Department of Corrections in Arizona as an Administrator for the college system for 8 years. I have been to many interviews and have been told I'm over qualified, and the pay is less than I made when I started working at 16 years of age. Also, they have so many people applying for 1 position. I have also been told that they can pay a younger person less wages and hire 2 to do the job.
I have also been told your from California. I live in Idaho, and I was told the same thing in Oregon.
Very disappointed in my job search.
Wish you good luck in your search.

I'm facing the same problem just in a different career venue. Wish I could offer encouragement but all I can say is keep plugging away its really all anyone can do anymore. Keep the faith and know your not alone.

I am. Exactly the same trouble..

I am wondering if all of us should put our heads and resources together and develop a non-profit/coalition that provides virtual medical office staff services.
The fee schedule could be bundled and each client would have a consistent assistant to perform insurance eligibility checks, EHR data entry and maintenance, form development for practice, credentialing and payor contracting application; other services rendered on a case by case basis. We could also offer services by an hourly rate.
Anyone familiar with this type of business model?

I certainly am facing the same issues. I have a great resume that outlines 30 years of Executive/Legal Administrative Assistant experience, plus 3 Associates Degrees. Recruiters love the resume and experience, but they want to pay me like I'm 24 and new to the job market. At 56, I feel that if I were a man, they would be tripping over themselves trying to hire me for my expertise! instead of trying to talk down my salary because they think I'm desperate!

Hi Matty, It is very frustrating - I am not going to give up - I have many years of experience also - dont give up - something worth your while will become available and I hope vey soon. Good luck!!

I completely agree and I am having the same struggle. Degree doesn't guarantee knowledge or skill. Dedication to earning an education is admirable - but isn't all - there also needs to be skill - hands on knowledge and experience - it is equally valuable. I have applied aggressively lately - hoping someone will take into consideration my 2 year degree and 25 years of legal experience and knowledge - giving me a chance in the legal arena that I have worked at quite successfully without a Bachelors all these years. Head-up - good luck!
Yes I've been in the sales and management for over 20 yrs It's Hard. ALL I CAN DO IS KEEP FAITH
