There are several options; your friend could register for a Kaplan type review course to show employers that they've brushed on their fundamentals. They could also go to medscape and take free CEs. They're general but same premise. Lastly register with agencies. They will start you with clients that are stable and slowly as you build your practice you will get new experience. Keep us posted.

Hi Katharine: What activities has your friend done in the meantime? If your friend has done any volunteering while in school or outside of school then it can be used on the resume. Anything that shows the willingness to step outside of the comfort zone, multitask, and a critical thinker should be good.
