Fed up

I applied for several positions based on the hours/days they were hiring for. However, when it comes time for the interview they are saying different hours/days. For example, I applied for two positions asking for part-time flexible hours. As long as you put your 20 hours in they did not care what days. One place posted they had many shifts available that varied in hours and days. In the interviews this was not the case. They picked your hours and days. I do not work Sundays, as I attend church both services. They would immediately wish me well on my job search, as Sundays are required. When I bring up the fact they posted the position for flexible hours/days, they both replied this is not the position they are hiring for. Another place I applied for, the HR manager and I emailed back and forth about the absolution of shifts available. The emails clearly stated she had several shifts of 4,6,8, and 12 hour shifts, and any days I wanted to work. I picked my schedule. I go through the hiring process and she is saying all she has is 12 hour over night weekend shifts available. I clearly stated and put on my hiring paper work, no Sundays, no 12 hour shifts, and evening hours only. I have yet to be called in for work.

A word of advice: "Flexible hours' rarely means you get to choose your hours. Instead, it typically means that they will expect you to be able to work different shifts as they need you to. They make it sound like you get more freedom, but that's rarely the case. The payoff comes in that you may have days off during the work week (makes it easier to do things like schedule doctors appointments), and that they'll have an easier time of covering your shift if you need days off (because everyone else will also be on 'flexible hours'--in other words, their schedule will be changed around to cover the hole your absence brings). You're a lot better off looking for a job that has a fixed schedule closest to what you want, especially if you want weekend days off.

I'm in the same boat.refuse to work on church days filled out like 100 applications and so far didn't get a single interview AND the only job I did get didn't pay me because they said it didn't count as work despite the fact that only the first week wasn't supposed to count and I worked two

The one thing I've learned is that when you're looking for a job you must go with the flow. If they tell you one thing and call you for mother take it. Once you get your foot in the door then you work towards your schedule that best suits you. Remember your in need of the job they are the ones hiring. Good luck keep your chin up.
