Should you admit to being unemployed?

They can't contact your current employer, and my line of work doesn't require any kind of security clearance, and I don't think anyone is going to check anything after the fact.

Talking about why you were let go is never easy no matter what the circumstance, and for some interviews it has really led down a bad street. I have only been unemployed two months. My resume still says - present. Should I change it, or leave it and just not dwell on it in the interview and let them think what they want?

Put the correct dates of employment in. You just left your job, you are interviewing now, it generally takes more than a couple of months to find a suitable new job, everyone knows that. But why were you let go? If there is a serious reason, it might be reflected in your behavior during your interview, in your references, there are all kinds of tells.

I am currently in a temp position that may turn full-time permanent in about 5 months or so. Its a State job, so they take their time in filling them with all of the hoops that have to be jumped, and the people who have to jump them with me. But..with all that said, it took me about a year or so to find a job that was what I wanted. I turned down a few low paying positions, seems like nobody wants to pay you for your work these days in North Central Florida for what I do. Good luck to you, but don't give up! Your new job is right around the corner!!

Change your resume to reflect current status.. When asked about the period of unemployment, mention that you have been interviewing for a more suitable position. Don't lie on the resume. If hired and the lie is found then you can be terminated for cause.

Hi David, Change your resume to reflect your end date, I am in the same position my last date of employment was April 29, 2016 . My employer moved to Texas and I am updating my resume, I don't want to be caught in a lie when interviewing.

David, yes change your resume to reflect your end date. A prospective employer usually does a background check and will appreciate the honesty.

I was bullied out of my position over a year ago and all I can find is temp positions. I hate it when I have to answer why after 10 years I am no longer working them. I was instructed by people NOT to say I was bullied out of my position. So I have to make up some different story. It stinks! Good luck to you David.

I would change it. It's a matter of honesty and integrity. Whatever is for you to have you will get it no matter what. Hey that's good advice for me. I've been looking for a job for one year. I was laid off and I hate talking about it. Simply because I know they wanted to terminate me. but didn't have the heart to do it.

Hi David, I would probably change it just so it is a reflection of your current situation. 2 months is not a long time. Plus if you leave it, you may go to an interview and they could ask you why you want to leave your current job, which could set you up for a tough situation in answering the question. Better for them to ask you why you left your last job.

Hope this helps!
