Spends every day almost, from 7am to 8pm looking for work
Who here spends almost every single day looking for work? Applying, applying, applying ...
I do get requests from those with Indian (from India) names who reside in New Jersey or other places. However, its mainly for positions I obviously can't do or don't qualify for or not in the same city (I live in Chicago but will get job requests for places in Utah, go figure). I'm keeping my head up and try to remain positive at all times but it feels like an endless loosing game. And its always the same sentiments: resume is too long or too short, not enough experience or too much experience, no degree when a job posts you need equivalent experience, you're 45 (they don't acknowledge this but its indirectly implied), or other rejection stories. I keep a simple spreadsheet of places I've applied and I have more red-line strike-throughs of places I've applied.
Its a never ending audition! I hustle my cover letter and resume to cater to each and every job I've applied for. I have over 200 documents in my resume and cover letter folder but to no avail, nothing. But every day I keep trying. ZipRecruiter, Glassdoor, Indeed, Craigslist, CareerBuilder, Monster, word of mouth, even referrals with people I know who work at prominent places such as Uber and some law firms. I've applied online and even send in hard copies of letters to companies.
