Need some understanding
I was let go from my last employer about a month ago. The insurance program I was apart of was in the process of shutting down. The employer started letting people go and my exit is labeled as a termination. The details behind their reasoning is "job abandonment." They said that I was not at work on June 6, 7, and 8. The first two days are my official days off (6 and 7). On the 8th, I had a personal appointment I needed to be at. I do understand I was supposed to check in with HR on days I officially work. This was the first instance I forgot to check in. Having a termination on my record is going to make it more challenging to get my name back out in the career world, because some HR departments try to find any reason to not contact possible candidates. I hope I will be able to find work in the Houston area soon. Thank you Jobcase community for letting me share my current situation.

Tim, Sorry to hear the bad news. Mariah has provided some very solid advice. You may experience some bad results from resume scanners. However, I would take the view of if they do not want to hear my side, I really do not want to work for that kind of company. You made a small error. Reality is you were going to get terminated one way or another. Seems petty that it was not handled with a write up or formal warning. That is what leads me to believe your fate was sealed well before this occurred. Kind of crappy in my opinion but there is not much to do about it. If your search turns into a longer than expected journey I would be happy to help you build your own consulting business in an area where you are comfortable and experienced for you at no charge. This is also similar to an insurance policy against this stuff happening again. It can be a side gig or a valid option. I would not sweat this though. You now have some different options to explore for your self. Look at this as a cup half full situation. Wally Barr

You're welcome, Tim! I definitely think that's a good idea. We're all rooting for you!

Hi Tim: I answered your other post with a few job leads - let me know what you think of them. In the meantime, I'd definitely make sure you give employers a heads-up about why you were fired during the interview process (so before they contact your references - don't mention it on your resume or applications). Make sure you label the incident as a miscommunication, as you can show that you officially had the first two days off. Don't go over it in-depth during the interview, as this can make the incident seem like a bigger deal than it actually is. Hope this helps!
Hi Tim, Just checking in to see how you're doing? How have these conversations been playing out? Best, Marijoy
