Pre-employment drug test
If I have been talking a medication for years giving to me by my doctor for anxiety. If it shows up in the drug test can they not hire me.

I have been taking a medication for over 40 years. Of course it showed up in pre employment drug test. I just had to take a pic of medicine bottle and sent to company that did the drug test. They reviewed it with their on call doctor and I was hired by the company. Of course I had to tell them why I was taking it and for how long. The medication also came up when I had an accident at work and a drug test was done. This time all I had to do was tell them why I was taking it and for how long. I think I also had to give them my doctor's name for them to verify. But I had no problems. When the drug shows up in a drug test, they have to contact you. Explain what you are taking and why. The company hiring you will not call you. The company or lab that did the drug test will contact you. They in turn will contact the company hiring you after they have talked to you. Just be up front with them and let them know why and how long.

Mike: Welcome back to grade school!! Bottle with note from doctor. Let us know what happens. Good luck my friend.

If it's a prescription drug you should be fine. Take the bottle with you, sometimes they look at it there, sometimes you'll get a phone call later asking what medications you're on. Just be honest, you'll be ok.

If you let them know before the test and have the bottle with you, it shouldn't be an issue.

If it's not narcotic don't worry about it

Don't eat any poppy seed muffins. An engineer found out on a random drug test that poppy seeds show up as an opiate. The cafeteria stopped serving them after that.

You need to declare the prescription. If you don't, it will show up and you definitely won't be hired.

If you have proof that it is a medical necessity no they can not.

firstly, they should have asked you if you were on any prescribed medications, if you said no, then your liable for the repercussions if they do appear on the screening. if you listed all medications then your clear as they can confirm with your physician they are indeed prescribed for a preexisting condition. Tell the employer, which meds your on.
on the side note (other side) 99% of the screening down now days look for opiates, THC, and traces of illicit drugs. They do not, unless specifically requested look for prescription traces, but on a new hire screening your scrutinized to the ninth level, to ensure your not a liability to the company. Your Best plan of action, list all prescriptions BEFORE doing the screening.
I take a medication that shows up on a drug test but i told them about that all i had to do is giving them my pharmacy number to verify the script.
