Too old?..

Too old? I lost my job after 14 years at age 63. New, younger management wants all young, like minded employees. He is forcing older workers to leave, saying thins like you “don’t fit in” or you are not a”culture fit”. That is code for you’re too old! That is discrimination. Florida doesn’t care...they will do everything to stop you from getting unemployment assistance. If you get it by some miracle, it’s 12 weeks only. I am single, no family and no income.

Gloria, first thing you need to find out is what exactly your former employer stated was the reason for termination. The reason I say this, I was terminated in December 2017 at the young age of 59. Been with company for 7 years. And I had no issues collecting unemployment and yes I live and work in Florida. The state of Florida literally decides the unemployment based on what code the employer sends in. I also know this from standpoint of when I was in management. Did you quit or were you terminated?

Age discrimination is against the law. Talk to an attorney. If you have proof it should be an open and close case.

That's terrible Gloria Day and yes you are right it is discrimination. I am so sorry! What type of work will you be seeking now? Also after 14 years, I am sure you will be granted unemployment if you have paid into it. I am not sure on what grounds they would deny you. Just keep positive!!
