Assistant Manager

I have been in enough Leader positions and now just want to be an Administrative Assistant but, all the interviews I have been on have told me that I am over qualified.
How do I get offered an Administrative Assistant position, even though I am qualified to be the Administrator? I would like to be able to step up and fill the Administrator's job when they are not available but, mainly just be the Assistant to the Administrator. I am now in the position of life that I would rather just help someone else "shine" with their leadership skills and just stay in the background.

Hi Anita,

I think what you just said works perfectly - you should tell employers that you're in a stage of life where you want to let someone else shine.

In interviews, don't focus on your past managerial titles. Instead, focus on your skills, your work ethic, and your attitude. Employers are probably afraid you won't be happy in an assistant position (i.e., you'll leave and they'll have to start all over again), so it's your job to tell them that this is what you want in this stage of life.

Don't worry - some lucky employer will take advantage of all your great skills and life experience!
