Volunteer Program Manager
I am trying to switch careers; from a volunteer program manager to human resources analyst or generalists for going for a manager or director role. How can I successfully make this happen without going back to school? I have an MBA and a Master's in Human Services and currently do a lot of HR functions but for unpaid staff.

Hi Tameko, You're previous HR management should be sufficient but make sure you have the computer programing skills to transition into an analyst role. Are you currently using PeopleSoft? Go online an look for free on low cost courses in PeopleSoft or SEQUOL.

Let me know if you need anymore help!
Tameko, It might also serve you well to get take the SHRM Certified Professional certification exam. Prep classes are offered or you can get the materials on line. I benefited greatly from attending the classes. I took the classes from Sept. - Dec. and took and passed the certification 2/1st. It is a lot of work, but the certification is asked for by an increasing amount of companies now seeking HR managers/directors.
