How does a former military service member qualify for employment preference?

I see online job postings and career fairs emphasizing veteran preference but I’m just curious the on the criteria companies use to offer job opportunities to veterans first over civilians applicants.

Hello Lynn, I am a veteran and I was wondering if you ever got the answer you were looking for? I know there is a form under your E-benefits page that you have to fill out, then submit. I am here if you have more questions!!

I'm not too sure about the selection criteria but companies that hire veterans get special tax incentives and meet their diversity hiring standards..

discharge status is a factor. You qualify with a honorably or general discharge.
