Beware...fellow job seekers

I have been applying for a little of this & that. By that I mean PT F/T & etc. I received a response from a Awid Estate. They wanted to send me a check for $2,702. Their instructions were to cash the check, keep $135 for myself. & Western Union the rest to France & pay the fees for Western Union out of the check. The code name for this transaction was KIMYMBE. I responded saying if it doesn't sound right or feel right, it's not & I want nothing to do with this at all. We are all looking for honest work here. Be very careful out there. Incidentally, this was a work at home site. Wow. If you don't use your common sense with some of these sites you really can get overwhelmed with the crap.

Bank Fraud is FBI territory for investigation - they sent a check to you that will not clear and instructed you to deposit or cash it, then you send funds to them (it's actually coming from YOUR account of real money you have IN your bank. They win (got your money), you lose (stuck owing NSF fees) and repaying whatever you spent of their fraudulent check, that you thought was new money.

Might also fall under Internet Fraud, overseen by the FTC for knowingly duping people in business opportunity matters, and Mail Fraud, overseen by the USPS top officials.

I get that on emails and worksites. I report them in to the sites I am on when receiving these request. It is a scam and nothing else. It's nice of you to share this, some people do fall for that crap!

When you get paid from a job, other than taxes taken out, the check is yours. Not you take some and give some to something else. That's a red flag.

Thank you for looking out, but if job hunting, someone wanting to send a check to be cashed sounds suspicious anyway. Especially since you weren't getting much back in return. So yes, be aware.

I went through the same thing. Since I was so busy with the actual job I have they were consistently harassing me about the money. I figured something was wrong and talked to a colleague of mine and she told me to alarm my bank immediately. So once I did I sat and waited a day for them to contact me. When they did I said they can stop contacting me because the fraud department had the check. Its crazy though. My colleague suggested just applying to jobs through the actual site of these companies and not using sites like Indeed, Ziprecruiter, and so forth. It's sad, sickening, and discouraging at the same time. We can't even look for work these days without avoiding these scams
