When is it ok to question your pay rate

I've been with a maintenance company for over a year. I started out working with several people and making minimal trade pay. The company has been thrilled with my work to the extent of giving me my own property to maintain, a 42 room hotel by myself. I get on a job listing site and see the same company advertising for a maintenance person making more than myself starting out.

That happens a lot actually. On my last job I found my starting pay was the same as my supervisor’s current pay. She had been there three years. The job before that, there were employees being hired starting $4-$5 more an hour with no experience to do my same exact position and I had been there almost 4 years.

You just need to weigh the pros and cons of bringing it up. Luckily, you saw it on a job board so the issue of discussing pay with a co-worker should not come up.

Now is.you showed your loyalty and work so dont be a dick about it just simply say hey been here for a year now , I love working here, I do great work, etc(all the good stuff) then simply say I am in need of a raise my plate is getting heavey and I need help. Did that exact thing to my boss and I went from $20 an HR to $36 after two years tho I probably waited too long lol and that was two years ago I'm at $40 now but I'm maxed out lol
