Where do I go from here?
I have been working in the pediatric department at a clinic for about 2 years. I recently got my nursing degree and now there is a position available. One problem, my manager is trying to give the position to someone she knows and I am afraid to confront her about it. Should I look the other way and wait for another to be available? I need help!!

Lou, really come on, you worked your butt off for your degree, with your skills and degree you can write your own ticket, you just need to be flexable, if your willing to relocate (and why not) you could not only get a job with better working conditions (no one trying to pull the rug from under you) and probably make better money. Come on your not the same person you were five years ago.

You really cannot confront her. That is "office politics" and something we all deal with. I'm looking for work and hiring is based on who you know unfortunately. Keep your head up and give it a shot. You can't move forward unless you try and stumble a few times. I haven't given up!

Congrats on obtaining your nursing degree I would ask her about the position n tell her I'm interested in applying it fair game don't be afraid you work there have a great work reputation take the chance and also apply other places don't keeps all your eggs in one basket

No you shouldn't wait If the time is RIGHT for you then you go for it" you need to sit down with your Manager and discuss it just to make her aware that you have qualifications too"

Apply

Apply.

Hell yea you confront her especially if your boss knows you want that position.

I would ask to talk to her privately, then when alone I would express my I interest in the position, reminding her briefly of how long you been with her and of the date you will obtain your official nursing degree. I would also ask if there is anything you need to work on in order to be seriously considered for this position. Be confident in what you do and be yourself, be professional, calm, and relaxed, positive and brief. Mention how much you enjoy working for the manager. Practice in the mirror once or twice before asking for her time too. While being open to constructive criticism, and careful not to interupt, keep your presentation brief. The manager is a busy lady. If she goes with someone else, it is probably because they have more experience in an essential area, learn from the person and be the best employee you can. Team player who can work independently with little supervision and follows instructions with a high degree of accuracy is the way you want to be thought of in any job in the healthcare field. Good luck with your meeting with your manager.

I say confront her about it.and see what happens.
Go for it! If you don't you'll live in regret, no matter the outcome.
