I gave up!
I've been looking for a career in the Mental Health industry since April. I have the certificate that is required and have put in applications for every position that was posted. No phone calls returned when I have called to find out where I was in the hiring process. I'm unable to resubmit any applications for some places for at least 6 months and others for a year. In the meantime I feel like I went to 4 weeks of training for nothing. Now I don't know what to do but I do know that retail and food is not my thing. Especially sells.

I think there is a site www.socialservices.com. try Careerbuilder. Com too. I would research psych wards and mental hospitals and ho in to leave my resume. Blessings!

Look you need income for now, put down your pride and just get a job, its not gonna be your job for the rest of your life, work where they can hire u right away, while you work you can still applynto where you want to work. You do not have the option right now to choose. Again, put down your pride for now and WORK!! . Thats how i was, im a graphic designer, i was looking for almost a year and nothing, but i needed a job to provide for myself and my home, so i worked as customer service but i still applyed, 8 months later after working so many diffrent jobs, i finally got a job as my profession, making great money, so If i can put my pride down and work till i find a better one, than so can you.

Good Morning or Afternoon,
How are you? Fine I hope! Don't feel like you went to school for nothing, its always a reason we pursue goals in a field and it does/does not work out. In this case, your skills maybe useful in another field. Write down all your skills on paper, be very specific. Even the intermediate skills and broaden your horizon. Plug-in those skills online and see what other jobs may fit your abilities. Maybe the right skills and wrong field. Please do not limit yourself to one career when you can be anything you desire.

Sheryl: I previously wrote you 3 days ago. One of your problems that may be causing you problems is that you volunteer information about yourself of being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, PTSD, etc. Also no employer will respond to hiring you when you not only disclose that which is none of their business and has nothing to do with your assets that you can bring to the company. I also have a bipolar disorder, but it was never disclosed to any of my employers as it had nothing to do with my ability to perform my job. Also Sheryl an employer does not need to know that you were abused whether it was physically or emotionally; also they do not need to read you have attempted suicide several times; they will view you unbalanced and a risk they don't need working for them. It does not matter whether or not you work in mental health or not; there are aspects that are personal that does not need to be disclosed. This does not make you an asset to any company; don't victimize yourself to an employer that is not going to get you a job. I also have been through mental and physical abuse; I was in therapy two years once a week. It took me quite awhile to work through my problems, but once again I did not take my problems to work. I was not wanting anyone to feel sorry for me. My work was done I will admit through "personal experience," but once again let me emphasize none of my drama was anyone's business, but my own. I have worked in the field of mental health as a case manager and social worker. I also worked mostly as a social worker in both nursing homes, mental health, and even a child protective investigator. My past allowed me to put my best to work for others in helping them. Also no one needs to know that you supposedly treat children diagnosed as you would your own child; not relevant. It's not important that you have a child that is special needs; once again it will not get you a job. Basically you are marketing your knowledge and skills. A company does not want to read about your personal issues; they want to read about experience, skills and what kind of asset you can become to them. Your experience of your past is not a "positive" thing to mention; very negative. If you live closer to a larger area you might want to start over again. Clean up your resume. Sheryl you need to move past the "I was a victim of this, etc." It's not of interest to an employer and makes them think you are a risk to hire. I know what I am talking about as I worked in this field for 22 years and am well aware what employers look for.

Hi Sheryl, Hold on, your time will come. There are jobs but.getting call back is just a.thing with these employee these days. I am not sure who or what they are looking for.Ron Weaver I read your post and it made me so sick I wanted to throw up. Take that meanness off here I don't think this is the place for it.

Don't give up keep trying because at my husband job they are hiring and they still giving application who ever wants to work

Maybe it's your resume, how it may look or worded

Yes it is illegal people here and are taking all the jobs and education money that they can get that, they haven't put into

This website is not even legit. I called 20 to 39 of these so called jobs and none of them were even hiring. I spent hours each day filling out applications just to find out these were false job opportunities. Jobcase is not real!!! They continue to send you companies that aren't looking for new people but will let you waste your time anyways.
In Texas we have (or at least did) have a program called Communties in Schools, meant to help keep kids from dropping out. See if there is anything like that in your area. Having said that, the other folks who have posted here are correct; you will have a very hard time finding a job without at least a bachelors degree. I would also suggest looking at direct care or mental health tech positions to help get you started.
