Most paper applications only ask for recent information or information that will be beneficial for the company. There is also a section on most protected info to select not to answer. Age discrimination is illegal but most companies do it anyway. If you offer the information freely then there is no way to prove you were discriminated against. Just answer questions that pertain to the job and do not volunteer too much info. As Ashley said, you will have ample opportunity to converse with coworkers after you are hired. Stay the course and keep the conversation strictly professional and if the interviewer does not then be non specific with your answers.

The problem with this is that although companies aren't allowed to ask your age, there are MANDATORY questions on the job application that ask for the year of your high school graduation of college. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.
