This is weird…
I’ve been looking for entry-level marketing jobs, but I keep accidentally applying for jobs that suddenly turn out to be door-to-door sales jobs. Trouble is these jobs are worded in such a way that you don’t realize your mistake until you’re at the job interview. How can I spot these jobs before I waste anymore of my time?

There are too many phonies, offering jobs that aren't really jobs. Due to our horrible economy.

Been where you are and experienced the frustration.
I've found Glassdoor and Google to be great resources to do some research on the company in question before I submit a resume to them.
There are a few companies in my area that post a LOT of marketing jobs that are little more than door-to-door or person-to-person selling. Experience has taught me to not even try for those and how to politely decline the opportunity if they call (some call if I tweak a resume and I want to say -- I can keep good notes, why can't you?!?)

Hi Derrick, don't be to quick to disregard those jobs without giving them a deeper look. Outside door to door sales have low monthly sales goals but get paid the highest commissions per sale. Getting the job done takes thick skin but the rewards are much better.

Oh man, I've definitely been victim to these schemes too. This is where a little Googling makes all the difference. If you see a job that's looking for entry-level workers/recent college grads, Google the name of the company to find real reviews and info on what they do. Chances are if they sell products or work with retail companies, they're probably door-to-door salespeople. Hope this helps!
I have had the happen recently. Honestly, the best way is before going into the face to face is to talk to the HR rep or recruiter, like a pre-screen interview. This process is beneficial for you and them because you learn about the role and discover if it's even worth your time for a face to face.
