Project Leader

Trouble breaking into to career

I've been a project leader at my current employer (manufacturer) for the last 7 years. I have taken management courses in pursuit of my Bachelors degree and taken some PM courses through Lynda.com. I've also worked as a web developer and system administrator for an auction house. I am looking to move into IT because it's where my passion lies. I have applied for every kind of PM or project leadership position related to IT hoping to break into the field. The little contact I've had with recruiters has led me to believe they think I'm making way too much money to make the move. Money is not a motivating factor for me anymore. Job satisfaction is paramount.

So my questions are :

What do all of you think I make based on this information... Project Leader for Department of Defense manufacturing contractor. 25 years of progressive experience.

What can I do to convince a potential employer that I'm looking for an opportunity more than a salary?

Any input is greatly appreciated!

Dear Edward,

You should transfer all your skills, experience, and success into PMP Certification. Also, take the Lean Six Sigma Certifications to test your viability of being employed in the field of your interest while working on your BSc degree. I hope you get through with this.

Kindest regards,

John M

I feel your frustration. I was a Massage Therapist for many years. I went back to school, I got a degree in NSA. Everything they send me is medically related stuff THAT I DIDN'T QUALIFY FOR in the first place.

Talent Acquisition / Recruiting

Hi Edward, It can always be tough to break into a new career, especially when you have had so much success and experience in a specific field. If the money isn't important at this point in your career, then I would tell the Recruiters and possible employers that you are looking for "X" amount of money. Whatever you are comfortable with.
