Started a job last week but I got offered job closer to home with better hours…
I was recommended to the job i’m at now by an acquaintance (friend of a friend). Would it be wrong to take this new job offer which is half the commute, pays effectively the same, and has much better hours? I asked the new company to give me till the end of the week to think about it. Any advice is appreciated!

Thank your good friend, give two weeks notice to current employer and don't look back. Good Luck!

You need to do what is best for you and your family. That's what it comes down to. Hopefully the friend of a friend will accept that and not take it personally. Good luck. I would just follow your heart.

Give a two week notice

I don't think anyone would be offended if you took another job offer but I would make sure you handle the change professionally. Set clear and realistic expectations around resignation notice and start date.

Yes, taking the alternative job is something you might do, but the bright side is you actually have not done anything that would make your friend look bad. I would bet your friend would understand that the difference's would be worth it and should except your decision. You might ask them if they would do the same thing if they were in your shoe's.

You have to weigh all the pros and cons for instance the new job has better hours and is closer therefore appears to have a better QOL, but is there room for growth or does the current position have the room for growth. I don't think the grind of a friend will worry too much so long as you are making the move for your own peace of mind and betterment.

Not at all! I think you have to do what's best for you, since it's your work-life. Let your friend know that you appreciate the opportunity, but you just received another opportunity that's a better fit for you and your family. Then go out there and enjoy that new job!
Talk with your friend, give two weeks notice to current employer and transition. Good Luck!
