Beware the Google Verification Scammers!
There are people posing as employers trying to sneak access into Google accounts. It's an international scam that just recently started running rampant within job seeker communities and employment boards. I'll explain their scam step by step so you can immediately recognize it and protect your account information.
First you'll receive an email from an "employer" asking if you're interested in a position of theirs. If you express interest they'll then ask for a way to get a hold of you to discuss the job. If you comply, you'll receive an automated text from a 5 digit number. At this point they have already entered your phone number into Google voice, but you aren't supposed to know that. Next, they'll ask you for the verification number you received in the automated sms. If you give them the number, you have just given them a password bypass and here's how: They enter your email info, and have a password reset verification code sent to your phone via Google voice, then claim the code you just gave them is for their human verification system. If you suspect something odd about the initial interaction call the number that the "employer" texted you from initially. If it's a scammer the call will go straight to a Google voicemail. Screenshots posted from my encounter this morning. Luckily I saw right through it. Posting here to keep anyone from falling prey to these "people". Stay sharp!

Okay... So yep had this happen to me today. When I received my code I headed the warning from Google to not give out the code to anyone... Including Google employees .. when they responded i was met with high pressure tactics. As the saying goes if it seems to good to be true, it is.

This happened to me this morning! Thank god I knew to look for that stuff!

Thanks for sharing, Ben!! This is definitely something we all need to be on the lookout for.

As you can see once he knew I knew, the texts stopped.

I purposely gave him the wrong code to see if he would persist.

Thanks,useful
