Getting promoted without manager's support
I've been working with the same company for almost seven years, while my manager has only been with us for three. I am the most tenured person in the department, so since Day 1 I think he has thought of me as a threat to his job and has never put me in a position where I can look good to his boss (who would promote me). How can I show the higher-ups of the company that I'm worth promoting if my manager controls the flow of information between them and me?

doreen, sounds unfair to me. try talking to your boss's boss directly.

...God is the one who gave you de job....ask de God Family to put you in a position fer a promotion---snap of Their Fingers & viola'....but you Better watch what you ask for...because you might just Get it....being a boss is Not all Roses---lotsa Thorns go with de job....Pray to God to see if it'sa de Right Move....or else not only will you lose the promotion---but de cushy job with Lesser responsibilities like you originally had....everything happens for a Reason....

You could clarify with the management what sort of qualifications they're looking for in someone they want to promote. No offense, but they seemed to have chosen your manager over you for the position, so there must be something he brought to the table that you maybe haven't considered.
Have you had a blunt conversation with your manager about this? This should be your first move.
