Customer Service Representative at Ascension Health

General Question

A supervisor at my current position stopped another CSR as they were walking and said "new year were cleaning house your next in my list" infront of a few other customer service reps. Any opinions or ways I can help them go about this they asked me what to do and I'm just unsure never been in the position.

I have done years of customer service. I love the work but much of the consideration that you give to your external customers is not given on an internal basis. Sounds let a set up. Keep on moving.

I am not sure what you could have done but as far as that supervisor or manager that was inappropriate. Even if he or she was next on his list to do either disciplinary action or fire. That should have been a private conversation. Where does it say you have to humiliate someone just to assert your power over them in the workplace. In this world of instant gratification I have no words. Most jobs Express teamwork and how do you seek out your position within the team that you're working with. In this case there isn't any because the dominance of the manager or supervisor oversees everything. Due to fear lack and of motivation inspiration a high turnovers it's just absurd. We have come too a point were bullying and standing up for your rights is shoved down our throat ,but when it has subtle implications in the work force, such as managers superseding their power and the need of having an income has come to this ,what can you do. In my studies of HR I learnt that HR is more so for the company then for his employees. Upon finding this out I immediately changed my core studies because I feel this somebody needs to stand up for the employees. Especially when they are managers or supervisors who are going under the radar and treating people in this manner. It has happened to me more than once and it angers me to know that we live in a society of selfishness, and power hungry superficiality in which we have to humiliate someone in order to show are superiority. The word team should no longer be used unless in sports because in the workforce my opinion is a bunch of bull. And even though I don't know the person that this happened to I say prepare to move on and I apologize for what occurred and how you may felt at that moment.

What a crappy place to work! In the first place, no supervisor should say something like that to an employee especially in front of others. Obviously that supervisor is a jerk and most likely, the person above him or her is probably as bad or worse. If you have an HR department, I would report it and ask what is going on. If that gets you nowhere, start looking for another job...as quick as you can. Noone should have to put up with that sort of nonsense.

I would stay out but tell that CSR to go to HR to report that conversation. If that CSR does report it, they should get the others (including you) a statement on paper about the statement the supervisor made. Then backup the CSR in HR.

Wow, as a Manager I would have asked the CSR to come into my office & explain to her that our company was down sizing. I would go over her performance reviews for the last year with her & explain that although they were average, our company needed to keep the higher quality producers as we proceed through the downsizing. I would thank her for her work & offer to write a letter of recommendation if needed.

Just My Perspective

Hi Courtney, Pretty insidious to think he was looking like a big shot, with his smart attitude. Thankfully in a very Fruedian way you didnt stick you're foot out to trip him, so hopefully it would knock the stupid out of him.

Operations Customer Service Rep Alorica

My first question would be to ask why I was on a clean house list? In most companies if you are doing something wrong, there is a process of verbal warning, written warning and then final warning before termination. Then I would file a complaint with HR or company employee hot line, because that is considered harassment. Get it documented before they get fired.
