So I have applied online to work overnights at a Walgreens near where I live. In less than a day they emailed me saying they will no longer move forward in the process. My sister had just told me that she has seen a sign on their door saying HELP WANTED OVERNIGHT for the past few months. I got really upset because I applied for the specific position they need and they just turned me down. I also have retail experience and hoped that would make me stand out more but I guessed wrong. If I apply in person will I get the same result?

Hi Ruby. If you are a minor, then that might be why you received that notification. There are strict guidelines in place regarding working hours for minors. If you are not a minor, go back to your application and make sure you filled everything out. If something doesn't apply to you, enter N/A. Make sure you attach a resume and cover letter if there is a place to do so. Call Walgreens and ask when the overnight manager is available. Go in person to speak with him or her and bring a copy of your resume and cover letter. Explain that you have been applying but you aren't having any luck and noticed that the help wanted sign is still on the door. Ask the manager to pull your application and look at it. Take initiative by letting them know you are very interested and see what happens. There are no guarantees, but placing yourself in front of a manager could prompt them to take the next step. There is no harm in trying. Good Luck!
