Go to your nearest America's Job Center. They have workshops for job seekers, young and old. I attended a workshop at my AJC that is titled: "Experience Works". It is geared towards your 40/40 crowd. Aw, come on, people over 40 who earn $40,000.00 a year or more? I'll confess, I'm in the 50/50 crowd. The workshop is brief, but refreshing. I'm enjoying better work because of it.

I have a theory on the rise in age descrimination. Since it’s fedral law all people have insurance businesses save money by not employing “elderly”. They are the most likely demographic to have health issues. Sad thing is there’s no good way to prove that’s what companies are doing. I wish you the best in your job search.

Hi Patty, after over 30 yrs in HR I'm amazed at how much age discrimination we have presently .Many employers are so age concerned they use all kinds of traps on their applications to find your age. 90% ask year you graduated HIgh School or year you finished college. Some of the best employees I had the pleasure of hiring were over 65, and the most productive on our sales force was 77. I have a feeling I would have hired you as well. Remember like one of your comments directed, AARP is a good reference point, there are employers that will be interested in you, so don't give up we seniore have a wealth of knowledge and experience that can't be overlooked.

Hi, Patty! Age discrimination is a real issue that job seekers like you face every day. You'll find lots of support on this community around that issue. I encourage you to visit the AARP website which has many useful resources for job seekers over 50. They even have a job board that only includes listings from companies who have pledged not to discriminate against those over 50. Hope this info helps!
