I worked so very hard to get my B.S., but I am older and have never worked in my field of study. I'm frustrated. What can I do?

Hi Elizabeth, It depends on your field of study and the time lapsed since your graduation. If you graduated with technical degree 5 years ago for example and never held a job in a related field then you'll probably have to take some extra courses to get caught up on new technology/trends. You might have to start out at an entry level until you can gain more practical experience.

Elizabeth,
I would first check with the school you graduated from and see if they offer internships in your field of study. I would also suggest you join some Linked In groups dedicated to your field where you can network with others, as well as search for any professional groups in your field. You need to get out and actively network with others. Good luck!

Can your school find you some jobs? Most schools have placement services where they help their graduates find positions. Even if they do, and they help you, apply apply apply. If you apply for a position and see that position come up again, retool your resume and resubmit. Make sure your resume is industry specific, and don't be looking for high pay out of the gate. Remember, most people with a BS are in their early to mid 20s.
