Job interviews
I graduated from Dorsey Schools Medical Assistant program. It was a very good program, it was challenging and I was a 4.0 student. The instructors were Doctor's and a Midwife. So I feel confident in the education I received. My problem is I'm not getting hired. I'm 58 years old and this is a change of career for me. I have been on a dozen or so interviews. My interviews go very well, I have a well organized portfolio, but I'm not being hired. The last interview I went on told my careers service representative, they didn't think I could keep up with the flow of work. My work ethic was formulated long before I went back to school. I worked as a Mold Injection Press Machine Operator. Talking about a job you need to keep up with. That's what I did for 20+ years. I was underrated without given the chance myself. Did I say I graduated in March? The place I didn't hire me because the Governor shut down the state and the clinic had a hiring freeze. (Not blaming the Governor). I thought I was an essential worker. 20,000 in student loans and no job is starting to stress me out. #healthcare

Hi @Cheryl Walker – these are very challenging times. I'm sure making a career transition is not easy right now. My suggestion would be to address that feedback you received very directly in any future applications. Specifically, tell them how you are used to working in fast-paced environments and have some good examples ready to share during an interview. It takes guts to start a new career. You've shown you have what it takes by getting the training. Don't give up, you can do this. Wishing you luck. :)

Hi @Cheryl Walker - it sounds like you had some great education, indeed!
I'm sorry that you're having a tough time finding work. Maybe we can help out! After your interviews, are you following up? @Ashley Wilson wrote a great article about the best ways to follow up with potential employers - check it out!
Yes, I do follow up with a Thank You email.
