Registered Nurse
I have worked geriatrics for well over 20 years and decided, at the age of 62, to semi retire. I applied for a pediatric home care position with an 8 year old in my apartment complex. It seemed ideal until she kept winging hard plastic toys at me and gave me a black eye, I tried to explain to her that toys were for playing with and we could do that together. Dad was there and called the company the next day saying that I wasn’t a good fix. All he said, while all this was going on is “don’t hurt the nurse.”

OUCH Sherri! He really should have supported you more in this endeavor. Did you know there was a behavior issue in this case? As a past educator I know that this takes special training and certification, particularly restraint training if the child is a danger to themselves or others. Perhaps she was just having a bad day, but plastic toys definitely hurt! I am glad you are ok! I would keep looking for other positions and don't take that one personally. It's probably best that you didn't stay as she seems pretty unruly. Let me know if you need anything!
