Why is it so difficult to walk in and apply for a job?

Online applications and and phone calls to employers are a Dead End. I went out to a couple of stores for walk in application and couldn’t find anyone to help me or talk about job opportunities when I know their hiring. Everyone directed me back to the the website to apply…

I love in Dallas/Ft Worth area and it's exactly the same way. The only way I found success was through my church. They have their own job board, but the local businesses (probably members) post their jobs through the church as well. Now this is a huge church with locations all over. Gateway Church with Pastor Robert Morris. They have free classes the members can take to help you find employment and do your resume. Maybe if you can find a big church like that, you will have luck. Of course the classes are free. Also, I found a church that has a food pantry and as long as u let them help you find employment, you can get your groceries free if you need them. Good luck and God bless you.

I agree Nicole. The days of walking in to apply for a job are over. We are now all slaves to the internet job search, which very rarely result in finding suitable employment. Suggestion: Explain to the person you're speaking with that you are extremely interested in the position, but due to circumstances, you do not have access to a computer. Maybe they will be able to assist you with a paper application? Worth a shot and good luck in your job search.

Most larger companies do not allow stores or the companies local office to accept or conduct hiring searches, they must first go through the Human Resources Department. Although a manager from one of these stores or company offices might interview you at a later date, they do not sort the initial Resumes. Keep in mind you might not hear from the company for a week or 2, while they review Resumes.
One other problem I have run into is it appears some of these job websites or ads online are not what they appear to be. Many appear to be phishing for your personal information, to either sell , use to recruit you for a different company, or use for fraud. If you are applying for a job at a Company, go to their website, and look for careers or call the Human resource office and ask where you can apply. Do not follow a link from a job ad unless you check it from different sources.

It seems that nothing is done in person anymore, all online. I've stayed posting my resume on different job sites like monster, snag a job and zip recruiter. You could try that.

Yes, this is the way so much communication has gone since the internet became accessible to virtually everyone. Many corporations don't want to actually talk to anyone, even their customers, unless they are trying to sell them something. It means that's it more important than ever to network where you might get someone's name that you can ask for when you make your follow-up call. Good Luck, I'm having the same problem.
