Winning Personality

I’m wondering what are some personal characteristics or traits hiring managers look for during interviews?

I look for someone who is positive, team oriented and willing to take initiative on their own. In the retail industry, you have to be flexible and be able to think on your feet. I look for people who can do those things and often times will hire someone with no experience if I see that they have these attributes.

I would say a very big thing is showing that you respect their time. This can be shown in a number of ways, but one key thing is to do your research on the company and person you are speaking/meeting with. This shows that you took the time to prepare for the time they are taking out of their days.

Confidence! Do your research on the company and the position you are applying for so when you meet with the hiring manager, you can have the confidence to answer any questions they direct your way.

Common courtesy is unfortunately not as common! Remember to extend lot’s of Thank You, Please, and You’re Welcome. You’ll be surprised at how much weight that carries in interviews.
