Anything

I am 16 years old with no experience. Both of my parents are unemployed and I have 2 brothers. I don't know what to do I never searched for a job,and my parents are totally against it. I want a job that will allow me to still have time for school but pay enough to be able to help.

Check a recruiting agency and temp. agency, they are great if you have no experience.

Don't let anyone hold you back. Get a recommendation from your HS counselor, teachers, if you did babysitting, etc. Be a role model for yourself.

Hi Michelle: First of all, I know your dilemma as well and applaud your wanting to help to contribute to your household income. However, saying that, the biggest problem is that you don't want your school work and grades to suffer. If you're insistent on looking for work. Part-time or part-time weekend is the way to go. If you're near Six Flags or another major amusement park that may be an option. Fast food restaurants or maybe part time at a movie theatre may be an option as well. These are jobs that will more than likely train you. Full time will not be an option until school's out for winter, spring, or summer break and overtime probably will not be available until you reach 18 depending on the laws of your state. Starting out, you are more than likely going to make around or near minimum wage. If you have taken typing and some form of computer classes in school, you may also talk to your school's career counselor (if you have one) to get advice and suggestions from him/her. The biggest thing, Michelle, is to be able to find time enough to balance work and school and I can't stress this enough.... Do not sacrifice your grades! Hope this helps!

Hi Michelle, you are on the right track by being proactive and using web sources. Speak to your school counselor or school resources department and see if they have a work study program. I know a lot of schools partner with small business. I wish you the best of luck. Also recommend to your parents that they use JobSearch.

Hi Michelle: I understand your dilemma. I know jobs in the fast food industry that many young people your age could get without much experience. I'm not sure what you want to do,but those are easy to get, especially for part-time & you still would be able to go to school also. I have nieces and nephews who work part-time & still in school. My heart goes out to you and I wish you the best for you and your family.
