No, you don't have to pay for a profile on Care.com. The upgraded profiles are optional. When you're signing up for your profile, select "skip for now" when they ask if you want to upgrade. You also do -not- have to pay for the background check as part of the site. You can have a free profile.

You can create a profile for free on Care.com. I have a profile on there a few years back and that's where I found a position in eldercare. They have plenty of nanny and babysitter jobs there too!
