As an older job seeker this made me feel good. According to a study I found it said older workers are as productive as any other age group, and that statistically older worker tends to be more loyal and stick around longer than the younger worker. YESSSSS!!! I personally think the younger worker likes to move around so they can acquire new skills...and I can’t blame them. It’s good for their resumes.
I think a lot of employers feel that older job seekers expect higher salaries or are overqualified, but I for one am happy and willing to go back to a position I had a few years ago! If it gets me back to doing the work I am qualified for and that I actually WANT to do why not? There are so many stereotypes out there, but you know what? I push against them because I know that I am worth way more than my age!!!
Oh, Lord... I'm so sick and tired of hearing the word "overqualified" as a reason for my not getting hired!!!
12+ years of cashier experience, WITHOUT A SHORTAGE, and you business owners would rather give the job to some flippy little teenager who averages a shortage every other countdown? Who thinks that the "No personal cellphones on your person while on duty" rule doesn't apply to them?
I worked for a Taco Bell in Chicago, and almost didn't get the job... Assistant Manager that interviewed me told me flat out that he wasn't a fan of my working there because he felt that I would get bored and quit within. 3 days because I was (in his opinion) too smart to work there; I replied, "If I'm THAT smart, why don't I own a Taco Bell franchise, instead of being unemployed???"
So, I was going to quit within 3 days, eh?
Guess that explains why I was there from February, 1991-April, 1993, huh?
