
What the purpose of a pre-employment Personality Test for a sales job?
I started an online application for a Sales position with a major retailer and was asked to take a personality assessment before sending my info. I don’t test well and I’m concerned this is going to immediately disqualify me if I don’t provide the answers they're expecting.

Greg, this is the trend in today's competitive job market. Assessment tests. I have my share of these of personality assessment test. These tests don't really give you the whole picture of the person. We know that different situations occur each time we come in contact with the general public. Some people perceive other people differently. We don't know what kind of events that are going on in the person's life. I take these type of tests with a "grain of salt" and move on to the next opportunity that will come way. Not everyone has the personality for Sales jobs and thats where you have to find your niche.

Communication is the most important skill to have in life, so personality tests are relevant in my opinion.

I was thinking the same thing....

These tests, are never a true result of a person. Unfortunately retail is a poor breeding ground for compident management, so they resort to meaningless testing. Retail is low paying, hence you get what you pay for. Retail should hire. And seek out compident management from the corporate world. Better results. Increased revenue, and that it's not always about products, but people.

That type of screening or assessment can be of some benefit to you in the long run. Square peg, round hole theorem at work. I get it though its not like you are going for CEO but try to stay positive and give honest answers.

I believe the reason is to verify u r human then they break down character traits to decide ur behaviors. All this is to basically figure out what kind of person u r before they consider u for employment
It may or may not, it is used to see if you have the personality to be successful in the position.
