I don't understand!

Hello all,

In the past 2 Months, I've been to 3 solid interviews. All 3 went very well, which I have over 15 years experience in my field. ( I am now 38yrs of age)What I don't understand is I was told by each interviewer that was a solid fit, & even went on a tour, and met with current co-workers. In my Interviews, we each sat down and connected in a professional and personal level, which I felt was great about because I felt confident enough to think I've landed the job.. I was told that I would hear back from them within a week or so, which of course I heard nothing back. I've called, left messages, and followed up with a thank you letter. I was always able to land a job in the past, however I'm beginning to think its my age & income requirement. Being that I live in NJ, when ask about my salary range, I feel with my experience I should not start at an entry level salary. To make it worse, I've seen a position for one of the companies Online which I've interviewed with listed as a freelance job. Is this the way of the norm now? Where companies rather save money by outsourcing?

I've been on seven interviews in three months and the same thing happens to me. All is well until they don't call me. I do believe it is an age problem, a salary problem, an ethnicity problem and more. If you can afford it, try to ask for for market rate because your yearly raises (if you get one) will not amount to what you'd like and you'll end up resenting the job and ultimately be back to where you started by having to find another job. I've had people ask me what salary I'd like and if I said too much they would let me know what their top off limit. I always mention it's negotiable too. Keep the prayers up and know that God will lead you to the right job for you.

Waiting on a simple surgery. On disability now

Hun I answered you once before. Do you realize in 3 months to interview at 2 or 3 companies is just totally NOT normal for a person needing a job. You need to interview every chance you get. Double book interviews. The more you interview the more you learn. The number of interviews is important because out of 50 or more interviews at least 1 company will find you to be a good fit. You must be proactive and wake up and dress for success every day. I would be out looking myself but I've got a shoulder surgery that was postponed and then a more serious surgery but once it's all over I will look for a job and not stop. I'm looking for 6 figures and it will take some favors and some hand holding but I'm worth over 6 digits and made (mid 300k per year plus benefits and bonus) so I won't settle for anything less. I work extremely hard and play even harder. I have been blessed but I feel this is going to be my last chance to make an indelible impression and find my dream job in Las Vegas. My age is just a number. I know how to bypass that tiny question and when I'm done with my 2 remaining surgeries and recovery I will feel like a new person. (No, it is not plastic surgery of any kind, one is to repair a torn shoulder ligament and the other surgery is very private but

You know it's funny that you say that because when I was a recruiter people would come in with outstanding skills and they couldn't get a job in their field so they ended up doing temp work. I feel that it's a slap in the face.

Not really. I think that outsourcing jobs and the company that have them take to much time like you said. They should be hiring and understanding what employees want. On the other hand some companies outsourcing are having employment through business practices supposed to benefit the company in the United States.

From a conversation I had today with a recruiter - YES. Companies now want 4 year degrees and tons of experience but they don't want to pay much more than what amounts to minimum wage for it. She told me she has been trying to convince her clients that if they want qualified applicants, they are going to have to come up with more money to get it. She also pointed out that if they pay a little more for experience, they wont be using her as often because they won't have to replace employees as often. Yes, she is shooting herself in the foot with that, but she'll end up with happier clients on both sides, and she will be more likely to get more business, or they will remember her the next time they need someone. I simply cannot accept less than a certain amount due to being the only income in my house and trying to care for a disabled partner at the same time. She said my salary requirements are honestly right where they should be, and she can't understand why I've been out of work for as long as I have. I told her - welcome to the job market when you're over 40.

I alway comment that I feel sure that there salary rage will be commensurate with my experience. Try not to pin down an actual number....this can put you out of the running as they will assume you will turn down the job.

I feel the same way about the interviewing process they go with a younger person. It is a same the way they lead you on though. Don't give up it will happen for you. It seems like the norm now that you mentioned it. Don't lower your self-worth for them either you believe you are worth it and it shows the rate with your experience then stick to it. I have all this education and it has hurt me instead of helped me get any job. I am either to qualified or not enough experience. I am sick of the companies thinking they can treat you any old way. I have put out just last week 84 applications and not a call or anything. Just keep up the good work and always check out the companies before giving information. Good luck and praying you get something in your field.

It could be that they hired within the company. Also, they might think you are overqualified. Employers look at the long term.will you be happy with a lower salary 2 months down the road when you are settled in. Also, sadly, they most probably looking for someone a little less qualified who may be happy with a lower salary..even down the road..
