Do it

I needed change. I need a new gig a new direction and I saw an add for a copywriter position and it seemed interesting, of course I was picturing some mad men-esque situation of creativity and drinking but, i also imagined writing again. I have been a writer for many years and many theatrical venues but, copy writing, never. But I applied and got the interview. When i walked in the office it hit me that I was old. much older than even my CEO and part of me gave up. how could I possibly change my life at this stage of the game? I interviewed, was honest, was true and I got hired. I started learning things day one, hard and fast and now, i feel solid and string and i don't think about the age thing. it is never too late to try, it is never to late to redefine yourself. No one is going to believe in you but you. Risk, leap, change it up, trust yourself. If your gut says yes, then take it as gospel, why not? years mean experience. For me, i have written plays,. sketch comedy, films, stage shows, essays but I was never a copy writer ...I told myself I couldn't be. Don't do that to yourself. people lining up to tell you nope, you can't, don't help them, help yourself. Believe it, experience is so valuable, trust yourself and go after it. It will work out.

This is an incredible story, Paul. There's been more than a few people describing age discrimination and doubt on whether or not they can change their career path. This is proof to everyone in the community that you can as long as you believe in yourself and your abilities.

I'm looking forward to you inspiring countless of Jobcasers to overcome any obstacles in their path - themselves, ageism, self-doubt, or anything else. Congratulations, and best of luck in your copywriter position!

Very inspiring story and message Paul! Ageism and issues over discriminatory practices during the hiring practice continues to be a major concern for many of our mid to senior level career professionals in the community. I've heard claims of inappropriate questioning during interviews and hiring managers who hang up once they hear the applicants high school graduation year. Bad interview experiences can be frustrating but the mental limitations and negative self fulfilling prophecies we set ourselves up with are deadly combination our self esteem and confidence. “I Can”!! Thanks for the reminder and inspiration Paul.
