Is it my age?
Yes it is ur age. Most kids start getting hired @ 16, (it's a law.) Try babysitting, dog walking, OR if ur close to being 16, try fast food places. N & Out Burger start between $12-$15 per hour. Mickey D's is famous for hiring and supporting a younger crew.

That's a great way to start. Also try talking in your career counselor at your school that has a strong background and understanding about working experience while you are pursuing other goals in school.

I'm not a kid I'm a 52 yr old woman. And I'm getting very frustrated because I cannot get a second look. I am very seriously trying to improve my financial situation and I keep running into walls. I am in the Dayton Ohio area

mickeyds is known to put kids thru college

If you are good with animals and people dog walking is a major job for a teen. Also car washes lawn and cleaning is good. Concentrate on where you want to be after school. I started working at 14 as a CNA. I had to pass a certification class. I wanted to go into nursing which I did. Or have fun sun splash skating movies always need young and energetic workers. Show confidence in yourself and flash you pearly whites...always.

Dog walking is a good one if your good with animals movie theatre what are your interests? Go for something you like to do...

Facts are ,facts, the States of Washington, California, and New York, have raised the minimum wage to $15.00 per hour. I live in Nevada, N out Burger start between $12 & $15 per hr. I do not give out errounous information. Mind ur business.

so your saying that someone without a college degree or HS diploma can make $15.00 per hr, just for flipping burgers. I don't think so, you had better get you facts straight.

Grocery stores need baggers and restaurants hire young workers as well to seat customers. My daughter worked at a dry cleaning business when she was in high school. Put together a good resume with school activities and achievements. References are good as well. Take them to the store managers and show enthusiasm to work for them. Good Luck!! I'm at the other end of being 49 years old. The company I worked at for 7 years shut down. I've applied for hundreds of jobs online in the last year. I have a college degree. I keep getting passed up for younger candidates. It's been very frustrating and I wake up every morning feeling depressed . I'm very close to loosing everything. I have worked so hard for. I have absolutely no income! I'm a single mother, my youngest is 15 years old. I was making about $50,000. There are no jobs here making anything close to that. I pray everday night that I will get that phone call!!

Please!! I'm 56.
If you aren't hired yet, use your spare time productively. Study for CLEP examinations, then take a few. Most community colleges accept up to 15 credits that you have accumulated from CLEP exams during your junior and senior years of high school. You have to be at least 15 to take CLEP exams. They're not going to get you any money right now, but they'll save you a lot of time and money on your college education. My CLEP exams allowed me to test out of two years worth of boring college classroom courses. I received both my associates and bachelors degrees in the same year which saved me thousands of dollars in my college education. Most colleges accept CLEP credits.
