ZipRecruiter job scam
I registered with ZipRecruiter on 05/13/17 and applied for a Customer Representative/ Administrative position for a Ron Bell, Inc. posted for Columbus Ga. May 15 at 9:54 AM, I received an email from a Frank Wallace at tesllaproductionsinc@gmail.com writing how impressed he was w/my resume & that the position was taken but that he has a Personal Assistant offer making $550.00 a week. I replied with interest & w/ my response acceptance of the position was confirmed by this Frank.
A day later, I did receive a check for $1,985.17 from a Avison Young (USA) iNC.9700 W Higgins Rd suite 500 Rosemont, Il 60018 from Bank: HSBC Bank USA N.A 95 Washington St. Atrum 5N Buffalo, NY 14203.
He is sending messages from a 1-210-802-7116 number and instructed me to deposit the check into my account, take the $550.00 out and deposit the $1415 into the following account:
Account Name: Chukwudi Okonkwo
Account Number: 5972009723
Bank Name: Wells Fargo Bank
I just led this guy on telling him that the money is deposited only to prolong the process for him to keep his account open. I contacted ZipRecruiter, the BBB, FTC (Federal Trade Commission), filed a police report, and called the FBI, and in the meantime this Frank is thinking that the money is on the way. The FTC advised me that the Police would contact the FBI to instigate the investigation. The police told me that the FTC would contact the FBI. I also let Wells Fargo Fraud department know of the account. This guy is at the receiving end of the account and it seems like nothing is being done by either agency.

Ellie,
Thank you for sharing the story to help inform others about this. I'm sorry these scammers wasted your time but you did the right thing by contacting the agencies to let them know of this matter. Unfortunately there are scammers out there and sometimes it is hard to differentiate what is a scam and what isn't. I hope this site helps and is resourceful for you regarding scammers: https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0243-job-scams. In the future, you can also avoid scammers by referring to this list: https://www.jobcase.com/conversations/16ac6bc4-eed8-5546-92f4-5c141e386edb

I feel that ZipRecruiter needs to take some responsibility to check these scam companies that register with them. After all, this Ron Bell Inc. scam company registered w/ ZipRecruiter had to pay a fee for the service. Ron Bell.Inc posted in 10 states for the Administration position and had 100's of applicants applying just in the state of Georgia alone. After 3 days the postings were taken down. Wonder how many job searchers fell for the scam and sent money. The Wells Fargo bank should also have done steps once they were notified on the account. The FTC does not contact the FBI, they want for the police to contact them - and the police does not notify the FBI either. It is a cycle and how can we put a stop on this if these agencies don't?
