What is wrong....
Back in 2008, I resigned from my 11year old job in a hotel I was unhappy at. I had just become engaged and relocated to the south with my 2 young girls at the time. Within 2 years, my girls and myself came back to NYC & it became a nightmare not having a job and having my mother foot all of my bills. Within a year and a half I became a licensed CNA & still could not find employment. I then went back to school, majored in Health Services Administration and with 2 years graduated Magna Cum Laude with my Bachelors Degree. While both of my girls are in private school and my mother footing the bills still, I'm beginning to feel worthless because yet OPTIMISTIC. I know after 8 years of being unemployed something will come along. I have soooooo many rejection e-mails from companies I've applied to, it's pathetic to say the least. Where do I go from here?
Have you considered an internship? An internship will give you work experience for a year or so, at little or no pay. However, the benefit of having actual work experience is priceless. Also, have you considered going to your college career center for feedback on your interviewing skills, and assistance with your job search? Companies that work with colleges often offer positions that require little or no experience. Also, what did you do before going back to school? Have you considered finding work in that field as you try to transition? Perhaps things you have thought about, but if not perhaps it will be of help.
You are not alone my brother....so first take solace in that. Two, I hope you and your mom have had several talks re: your love and appreciation for what you are trying to do and how she is helping- that's what family is for! Third, the more face to face time with others, the better the chance of landing something. You gotta be strong, optimistic soze to set example for those girls. I have an MBA, decades of experience , have conducted business on five continents and a coupla dozen countries and am stunned as to how the world of work is riven to the young....
I recently went through something similar I was in the Army for 10 years and was medically discharged. I didn't have as much is that education background as you do with the degrees in such I was just military occupationally skilled and now with the medical problem to boot. I found that applying online I would get no responses then I tried the old fashion way I actually went to the place I wanted to be hired at ask them for an application and even if they told me they didn't hand out applications anymore to feel one and online I found that just by showing up to the place they would recognize my name and I started to get emails back maybe it'll work it works for me. Another example my fiance is a CNA also she is been in the field for around 10 years and as for me she lives with me in Oklahoma now sheep and that it's a lot easier to get a job in Oklahoma then it was in Maine now I never been to New York but I'm sure the population there is much greater than the jobs they have available in the healthcare field. Maybe you did not like living beneath the mason-dixon line the south but you don't have to move out of the state or too far away from where your comfort zone is maybe try to apply out of this two different counties excetera remind find the better the job opening replace this one stay away give it a try I hope all is well through Jesus Christ all things are possible I will keep you in my prayers sincerely... Move to where the jobs are
How are you accounting for all those years of unemployment besides those were in school? Do you have any other things which employers are averse to like bad credit or any criminal history? We're the schools you went to accredited? Do you have work experience in your field or just education? Do the institutions you attended offer placement assistance? Perhaps you could take a job search training course somewhere. Job hunting has changed since you last work. It's much less conventional. Don't get discouraged and step up your game.

Are you just applying for jobs in the healthcare field? I received my BBA in Healthcare Administration in 12 and also graduated with honors. I have found that we really need a Masters Degree. I applied at staffing agencies for administrative jobs, and have since found that it is less complicated to get a position with our type of degree through a healthcare warehouse. I think you are in NYC. Jersey is next door and are home to several corporations such as Johnson & Johnson, GE Healthcare, and Bracco Diagnostics. Have you applied with these companies or thought about working for a corporation?

Hi Rosa, Furthering your education was a good idea during your time unemployed and I'm happy to hear you mention that your still optimistic about finding work because I'm sure you will.
Keep your head up and shoulders high, something will come along, trust me, I've been a surgical technician for 30 years but when the Dr. retired it has been a pain trying to figure out this next course of life, it seems like if you're not 18+ and hot they won't hire me, smh
