I have been unemployed for 3 Months
I have been unemployed for 3 Months and have put out over 50 applications during this period. I was in the Automotive Industry for 33 years. I began with the company when I was 20 years old. I worked for this company for 22 years in management and purchased the business in 2006. We went through the recession of 2008 and never really recovered from it. I owned 6 retail locations and had a administrative management company that ran the operations. I was always hands on and lead by example. I sold the business and walked away with nothing. (Long Story). I am in search of a new career and have looked in and outside my industry. I have a High School Diploma and have always worked very hard for 33 years to move up to the top of my industry. So far no one has interest in me. I have my resume on all the job site websites, LinkedIn and have a headhunter and temp agencies helping me. I need and want to get back to work now. Any thought or suggestions?

This is your fault for no job. I can go on with a story of my life where I can't even go back to school or get fed grants. But that would be s petty story like yours. When I started back to work in 2010 I had three jobs. The full time job went out of business. The other that turned into a full time fired me because the lower assistant manger did not like me because I wouldn't do drugs with him. Still working part time I found a full time job that paid better in one week. So I no longer needed the part time job cause the full time job paid as much as I was working two. Two years later that full time job fired me after putting me in danger and I called the laborer board. A week later I found another job. And here it is 2017 I've not had a vacation and never been out of work no more than as week. It's not the job I like but it's a job. I'm not drawing as blank

Instead of sending out resumes, try this:
- Write an email to ALL of your friends stating that you are looking for work that would take advantage of you skills (list your top three skills). Ask them for anything they are aware of that might be a good fit for you. To take it to another level you might offer them a percentage of your first paycheck.
- Identify five companies you would die to work for. Go to their web site and find out who is the head of the department you would like to work in. Draft a letter which begins with the one thing that makes you excited about the prospect of working at their company. Highlight your top three skills and explain how they would be a benefit to the company. Send this letter to them in the mail, make sure you include all the possible ways to contact you. If you cannot identify the person from their web site ask your friends if they know. If you still do not have a name, call the company up and ask.

I will keep you in my prayers, sorry no one has taken a second look at your resume, but always remember this: where there is a will, there is a way, keep your head up and your Faith strong, trust and believe when I say this; your not alone good luck on your journey, look up your not alone

YES STOP GOING ON THEESE SIGHTS THEY DONT GET YOUR APPS THEY JUST GET YOU INFO THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME WHEN I CALLED THE COMPANYS THEY NEVER RECIEVED MY apps you need to go to the companys web site where you want to work directly they are full of it theese sites dont work

Eric, What I took from this is you want to reinvent your career. It can be done, since you had a business and have management skills you may want to seek in a field of purchasing manager or an inside sales manager. Logistics might also be an alternative you have skills that would require those qualities. It gets discouraging I have only been out of work for three weeks and I am getting frustrated I just got my Bachelors in service management and a minor in human resources I have 38 years in retail sales without a degree you would think I would be looked at seriously because of the longevity with companies however I have walked into interview situations and have been interviewed by individuals whom are so much younger than me, one even made a reference and said I was as old as his mother he could deduce that from my job experience on my resume it was not appropriate but it is how the world is today. Age also is a factor and it really should not be. However this journey into looking for a new career path can also be exciting just keep educating yourself and you will find what suits you but look at what you have already accomplished not easy and that is something to be proud of. Good luck in your search and make sure you explore all of your possibilities in your line of experience.

Hi Eric I understand how frustrating the process of job search can be but hang in there. There are somethings you can do to increase your odds of snagging the job you want, I see you are willing to branch outside of your skill set is it possible to geographically relocate? Pursuing career skills such as computer technology through a community college or trade school maybe an option. Finally have someone look over your resume objectively and provide you feedback, hopefully this is helpful. Again hang in there and keep feeling out those applications. Best regards Dianne F

Eric, you have experience with people which tells me it shouldn't take long to find the right job , but with the time you have utilize it to your advantage by getting other task accomplish like make sure your vehicle and home maintenance is caught up, or take some management courses thru college search for jobs in your related field, some one with talent will do alright I hope this helps you

My thoughts and prayers are with you.......the process is frustrating, but whatever you do don't give up my friend.Your experience and work ethic will be a asset to some employer....God bless....Good luck to you
