I am one of the few moms in my office

Sometimes I feel out of place. Does anyone else relate to this?

Hi Tara,

I COMPLETELY understand. I returned to the workforce after 9 years (!) and it seems like everyone I work with is just at the beginning of their career!! Fortunately, as I get to know everyone, those differences have faded a bit. My guess is that if you get to know your colleagues on a personal level, you'll find they're interested in cool stuff, are plugged into the community in a different (and interesting) way, and they'll be curious about you and your family.

There are still times when I feel like I have a completely different world to deal with (almost like having 2 full-time jobs), but that - I think - is just the way of things. Keep in mind that the "non-parents" have their own world to go home to & you never know what that may be... some might be in relationships (or not), some might be trying to have kids (or not)... try to keep an open mind and I'm sure you'll connect and feel less out of place.

I'd love to hear how you (and other people) manage! Thanks, Marijoy
